Default Regular water or distilled water to mix with coolant?

hi, my dad's car uses this coolant called Shell Glycoshell. on the bottle it says you can mix it 1:1 with water for it to work up to -38 C. can i use regular water, or must it be distilled (what someone told me).

or should I just pour it in undiluted? that's what the service advisor at his dealer said to do when topping up, but i poured in 2 quarts last night, so it's more than just a "top up".

Thanks!

Distilled is typically preferred over plain tap water.

Default 50/50 mix, distilled water/coolant. You can use plain "clean" water but it will

over time cause, or help cause deposits/mineral/rust issues. So distilled water, unless you plan a coolant flush soon anyway or something.

Thx! Do you agree with the advisor not to dilute it or should I follow the bottle's label and do it?

Default You want to use distilled because tap water will leave deposits in the radiator

which can reduce flow.

Default It's fine to not dilute when it's a cup to two, but in reality you should always dilute it.

That said, you're probably just fine and well leaving ti the way it is. The mix is not *that* critical really. Better a hair strong on the coolant side than the other way around... at least here in Maine where it get really cold.

Default ...but the reality is...

the radiator will probably leak (requiring replacement) long before it gets plugged up! :-P Thats no excuse, but still....

If you have distilled water, use it. If not, no problem.
