Default reliability?

i gotta question i wanna ask you guys. Im leasing a 2001 au4 1.8t w/ quattro. i decided to lease cuz i figured my next car would be an s4. i figured since i wasnt keeping it, i wouldnt care if i beat on it and drove it hard. it now has close too 35000 miles, and the car has no problems - the clutch still grabs hard too. i have decided to keep the car and when warranty expires, i plan on doing a turbo upgrade etc. do you guys think that from me beating on this car on a daily, is it worth keeping and modifying? or have i probably lowered the life span of the car i mean how reliable are these cars? all you guys with 98 and 99 a4s do you guys drive em hard? be honest. thanks.

Default 2001 and a big turbo? You might want to rethink that. The 01s are kinda the Black Sheep of the A4 s.

The good thing as that the 00 guys are glad they don't have 'em. ;-)

Default Re: reliability?

why exactly is that? is it cuz it is a dbw? or are there other major differences?

Default who you callin' a black sheep?

At least we have 170hp stock and ability to buy an x-chip. The '00 has neither.

Default '97 1.8TQA here... Occassionally drive her hard.

No problems at 96k miles- The past 12k miles have been chipped miles too. The only major things I've done maintenance wise have been:

-timing belt @ 75k miles
-new serpintine belts @ 75k miles
-new tie rod end @ 86k miles
-new lower control arms @ 91k miles

Other items like brakes, suspension, blow off valve (yes BOV, not BPV) were replaced because they were upgrades, and not because of part failure.

I personally think that the occassional romp on the car will not decrease lifespan- The 1.8T is a pretty stout motor that can take some abuse.
