When the first fan blew, I checked it and it was working fine. After the second, it was immovable.

Default You get it figured out yet?...

When I did mine, I did it exactly as it says in the writeup. biggest allen that would fit in there, and just futz around with it until it comes off. I ended up holding the allen with my other hand. luckily mine was not on super tight. Admittedly I did have the lock carrier off at the time, so I had lots of space to work.

I kept second guessing myself as to which way it was threaded. I think it turned out to be normal.

Default 97 A4 Fan clutch removal

How do remove the fan clutch on my 97 Audi A4 quattro 1.8L turbo? Without the special tool? I know to use a allen wrench from the back side, I'm not sure what size allen it is, or if it's reverse thread or not? Has anyone put pictures or good links up on this yet? I have all data, but it's not much help )

One said they used a little allen wrench to jam into one of the pulley's holes. I wasn't able to get anything to hold it as tightly as necessary.

Thanks.
I used a 12" adjustable wrench (have to turn clockwise) and used vise grips to hold pulley to backplate. Worked great came off easy. Improvision.
