Default Reprogramming Chip.....Questions

I just purchased a used APR v3 chip and ECU from DGModel on the board. His ECU is an "m" and it is set for a 1.8Tqtip, and mine is a "P" for a 1.8Tqm ...I confirmed with APR that it will work in my car, but they said they need to charge me $50 to reprogram and $50 to change the warranty. My question is, does it HAVE to be reprogrammed right away (will it fail to work), or will I just have to drive around with the CEL on until I can get it done? Can I have someone with a VAG reprogram it for me? Thanks for helping me out

By the way, I also just ordered the TT BPV, and a boost gauge so I'm starting out my mods

Default hmm...

The chip can be reprogrammed...

What is the rest of the ECU number? (there are two 'P' versions)

It's 8D0 907 557 P....keep in mind that I don't want to install the chip on my ECU....I'm putting his ECU in place of mine, and I'm keeping mine as a spare "stock" version. The only need I can see for reprogramming would be because of the difference in transmissions, but I've read that it might just make the CEL come on, but the car will function. I'm just looking to avoid paying $50 to APR for some minor little thing that anyone with a VAG could do for me

Default People please correct me if I'm wrong...

But I don't think that you'll be able to use his ECU in your car. the 557 P box is from a non-DBW car (1999 and before). Your M box is a 2001 which has DBW.

This is the email I received from APR when I asked the question

The 558M box was available on a limited basis in pre-2000 models. The ECU
can be recoded for use in your car. This will come at a charge of $50 for
our warranty transfer and $50 for recoding. I hope this helps. Let me know
if you have any other questions. Thanks. Jeremy Auvil

Default Ahh.. makes sense now..

I thought you were an 018M box. Never heard of the 558M before.

The question you should ask APR is if the chip programming is different between the two. They said "The ECU can be recoded for use in your car." If they're talking about just the soft-codes, then anyone with a VAG can do that (make the soft-codes on that ECU match what your stock soft codes are). If they're talking about changing out the programming on the chip, someone with an APR programmer may be able to help you (assuming there's a socket on your chip.. open the ECU and check). You'd have to have APR send you the software though, since there's no 558M download on their site (which leads me to believe that it may be the same programming as another box)

Alright, thanks a lot....that's the most straight forward answer I've had yet

By the way, I'd never heard the 558M box mentioned on here either....that's why I emailed APR
