I think TDI Avant Quattro manual FTMFW....
I am SERIOUSLY considering this very very soon. A good friend and I are going in together on a professionally built biodiesel production system and given the state of the world it seems to make a lot of sense.
I know I'd give up some (a bunch) of power... I'm OK with that really. Torque wins the race. ;-)
It is either this or step away from Audi *cries a little bit* and I just don't think I can or want to do that at all. I lub AWD and my only other options that really work with the dags is an SUV of some sort with a nice diesel swap - older Land/Range Rover, older Jeep, older Toyota 4 Runner etc etc. <--- not too excited about any of those really. I have grown used to comfort after years of old rattle-box Jeeps and old iron.

Quite the opposite! I LOVE IT!
Just having the need/desire to be a little more "tree-hugger" for the long term. Plus it would be cool -- ;-)
I love diesels, always have.

Common thought, not really true ------------>
With the new diesel even less true, if true at all.
Bio is either a recycled oil (waste veg oil) or virgin oil - but it's completely renewable and uses a product that as it grows is cleaning the air/soil/etc so the overall impact is close to zero (as long as it's produced without chemicals and the like)
Nothing is perfect, over population and consumption are the number one/two issues.... but now we get going down a whole new path and this is not "off-topic" - ;-P

They are dirty, in a different way. They emit less 'greenhouse' gas than gas...
but more particulate.
And if synthetic fuel isn't carbon based, there are NO carbon emissions from what I've been told.

Yup, I agree 150% the B5 is much nicer than any 'dub.
Thing about it is that there is a TDI Passat at a semi-local salvage yard - i could rob all the wire harness and misc parts i need. I'd need a motor as the one in the car got hit really hard in the accident, maybe it could be rebuilt though.
