Default Shifter question: Push-down or non-push down?

I wanted to get a UUC Short shifter and eric@spp says the non-push down version won't work in my car. I have a 98.5 and currently I don't have to "push down" to get into reverse. is this normal?

thanks for any info.

Default Hmm, I have to push mine down. But I never tried "not" pushing down. And the one time...

My Girlfriend drove my car, she said she didn't push down and it went in.

Default There's a tech bulletin (99-01) explaining it.

Default Slightly OT, My GF and I went and looked at Greyhounds for adoption yesterday. We are seriously...

Considering it. They are sweet and gentle dogs, it was the first time I have been close to greyhounds.

Default So you think all this time I've been using non-push down and it's a fluke? :)

could be I'll try pushing-down to get in reverse later after work...

I hope I'm not damaging the transmission or anything!

I don't know...I have to experiment myself. She only drove it once.
