shocking anti-theft system
anybody heard anything about those electrical current anti-theft systems? anyone installed one? i'll be living in dc next year and would consider getting one, if it's reasonable in cost and doesn't compromise alarm functionality or anything else.

Re: shocking anti-theft system
Sheesh... DC ain't that dangerous (NW and the outer suburbs, anyway). Around here thiefs like to take your car by carjacking or towing it illegally, so a shock deterrent system ain't gonna help much =)
I'd probably get the AutoTaser ($160 after rebate) if I lived in NYC though. It's powered by three 9-volt batteries and 8-10 hour daily usage will last about 6 weeks.
Excerpt: "If the AUTO TASER’s ultra sensitive vibration detectors sense an intruder, a screeching 120 to 130 decibel alarm is sounded as a warning before aggressive countermeasures are initiated. Five seconds later, a field of electrons completely surrounds the unit. Any attempt to touch the AUTO TASER zaps the thief with an unforgettable, yet non-lethal 5,900 milliwatt (50,000 volt) electron pulse."

AutoTaser

Anti-theft in D.C. >>>>>
IMO, the A4 isn't high on the list for thieves in D.C. because there's not a demand for parts and they go for something flashier or easier to steal.
I'm in the suburbs and when I'm parked on the street I feel fine with the standard alarm, a steering wheel locking device, and the fact that it's a manual transmission. If you can keep it in a garage (private preferred), that's even better.
BTW, D.C. is a great place to live. There are obviously areas you don't want to go and areas you shouldn't be in at certain times. But, once you learn that, you'll soon appreciate all it has to offer.
