Certain areas of the continental divide are required during bad weather.

NOT TRUE - Chain laws usually say you need chains OR 4-wheel drive.

Do you live on a frozen lake, top of a ski slope? You don't need chains unless you get stuck!!

I grew up a cold area of Canada and have never even seen tire chains.

Default RARELY in the Colo.Rockies are CHAINS required on PASSENGER cars...

Generally chains DO get required on commercial vehicles. Oh, btw, snowtires and quattro should get you through any conditions on any paved road.

Default Top 10 reasons for use of chains with quattro:

<center><img src="http://pictureposter.audiworld.com/AudiWorldPics/2000/Moron.jpg"></center><p>Top 10 reasons for use of chains with quattro:

10. Your hood latch is broken, and you need to tie down the hood.
9. You're moving and you need to tie a 3000lb load to your roof like this reject(see pic).
8. As mentioned, you live on a lake or a ski slope
7. You have an annoying S/O you need to tie up in the trunk.
6. You need protection from the idoit punks with knives and baseball bats.
5. You really want that cool looking chain steering wheel.
4. You're pissed at your neighbor, then put on chains and drive across his driveway and lawn with a large grand piano chained to the roof(re-read reason 2 before trying).
3. You need a good massage, then put on chains and drive at 90mph over dry tarmac.
2. You don't have quattro, and drive an SUV and need the chains to stop that heavy behemoth!! hahahahaha

And the NUMBER ONE REASON FOR CHAINS WITH QUATTRO IS:

1. You are Frank Biela and need to add the weight penalty in the back because you have the "unfair advantage" and are racing in the BTCC with quattro
