tell him to ask any BMW techs about the problems that E46 M3s have with the engines.
a very close friend of mine was one of the head techs at Crevier BMW in Santa Ana. After listening to his rants about those cars and about how they are the biggest pieces of **** ever made i would never in my wildest dreams consider buying one. he likes M5s though :-P

I agree, plenty of my friends fathers have had various issues
with their M3's. I know a few who actually ended up switching to p-cars as well as Audi's.
There's a BMW dealership near my parents downstate which is owned by a family friend. I asked him a few years back why he doesn't have an m3 or an m5? He said "I like car which I can drive everyday and not have to pay the consequences." They see quite a few m3's and m5's in there on a daily basis. He said a '57 Isetta would be more reliable! Ever since then, I like to look but won't touch (BTW he drives an x5 and has a 740iL.)
