speed meter i think is off??? not sure why or am i just going nuts???

speed meter i think is off??? not sure why or am i just going nuts???

today coming from school i was on 280W in New jersey going home and the speedometer says im going 80 and seriously it felt like i wasnt moving.... felt like i was going 60mph soon as let go of the gas it will actually stay up at 80mph and i can feel that im slowing down i dunno why the meter is slow? what u guys think the problem can be my dad said if the meter is Fu*cked it wont be showing any type of speed it wouldnt move at all is this true? well anyways any thoughts will be helpful. thanx
