Thick milky sludge when I changed oil!
Hey anyone else have the same problem... I just switched from conventional to synthetic oil and when I did an oil changed I got tons of this sludge crap that is vanilla in color. Time to throw away the A4 and get a M3.

No time to start changing your oil regularly and use synthetic.

Good riddance, your level of technical understanding begs for a BMW.

Yeah, right!

Missing coolant?
Are you driving enough to get oil temps in the 200+F range? If not, its condensate from combustion (burning hydrocarbons releases water).
If you are missing coolant, its probably a leaking head gasket. Have you had a high engine temperature event? Send a sample of the oil to a lab for coolant leak detection. If you have access, you could centrifuge it and check under a UV lamp for fluorscence as both kinds of coolant have UV dyes. |
someone told me this white stuff builds up if your engine doesn't get a chance to warm-up properly..
like when you do a lot of short distance driving - less than 10 miles per trip.
Either that, or by mistake you put milk into your engine last time ;-) |
No.....more
The tech I spoke to at Carousel in Minneapolis said this is normal and it is just moisture and not too worry about it!!!!
|
Can you direct me to some write ups regarding that?

Have you tried searching the forums for more info?
I recall someone else posting similar experiences...but I don't recall what the final analysis was. Like others have said, it's probably water condensing in your engine, but you should do a search to confirm that.
I've never experienced that, however I drive my car a minimum of 30 miles each way on a daily basis, and often 70 or more each way on weekends. |
Time to start letting your car warm up properly before you shut it off..
Short hops are the WORST thing you can do to a car.. If you think the A4 is bad, how do you think a tempremental BuMWipe would be????
If you let the oil get sufficently warm, it will burn off the water (vapor) that is naturally present within your engine.. Also, I assume that the milky sludge was only up in the valve covers, not coming out of the drain, right?? |
