I have a 1998 A4 Quattro with the 30v 2.8. I had a error code pop up and the dealership told me the throte body was shot. I have heard that those NEVER go bad. I had the engine running when I was under the hood one day and heard what sounded like a vacuum leak from between the engine and fire wall but Can't seem to get back there to see if thats what it is. ould a vacuum leak be causing the throtle body to malfunction?

Probably not.
Check the code yourself, if it's the normal error it's usually the potentiometer or switch on the TB, sometimes dirt can cause the butterflies to stick and cause the error.
However their are vacuum tubes connected in their + gaskets the dealer could have dislodged something, or the 13 year old vacuum piping is falling apart.
