Time to play: "What broke this time"
A few days ago, as I was unlocking my door, I felt something go *pop* and then noticed a rattling sound each time I rolled down my window.
The other weird thing was that when I turn the lock (no keylees entry, remember), there is ZERO resistance (whereas when I turned it, I could feel the lock tugging on something).
So, I decide to take off the door today and what do I see:
At first, things look somewhat normal.
<IMG SRC="http://www.bugbbq.com/lock/1.jpg">
Then I notice this peice floating around...and wonder where it could have come from.
<IMG SRC="http://www.bugbbq.com/lock/3.jpg">
then it all hits me, it's the bracket for this:
<IMG SRC="http://www.bugbbq.com/lock/2.jpg">
So, apparently the METAL broke off the locking mechanism. yes...BROKE OFF. METAL. OFF OF METAL.
but that's not the weird thing. Apparently, that metal bracket does NOTHING. I tried to see what it did, but found no use for it whatsoever. It doesn't make anything move with the door latch. It has no effect on the alarm or the door locking mechanism. All I could tell is that it puts more resistance on turning the door lock for that "luxury feel".
And it probably costs over $300 to fix :P
Man, I loooooooooooooooooooooove german engineering ;-)

And this is how I fixed it:
Duct tape!
I duct tape'd the metal rod to the door frame so it wouldn't rattle around in there.
Who knows...maybe AoA will issue a recall for it. :P

don't plan on getting it officially fixed.
right now, it's duct taped...again...nothing major. Door still works and lock still locks.
I wonder if other people have had this happen. Again, I don't use the keyless entry, so perhaps manually tuning the lock puts too much strain on a weakly designed part?
