Default Timing Belt screw up - Help Needed

I did my timing belt according to the write up in tech section 99 1.8t

It was aligned top and bottom on the marks I made on sprokets, but when I put the lower timing cover on, that mark was off to the left by 3mm or so.

The car runs, but I think it might be off.

1) How can I tell if I am off by a tooth?
2) What would be the symptoms, would it be minor or would I know by the sound of the engine?

3) If I take it apart, can I reuse the tensioner by pushing the pin back down
4) Can I just rotate the crank pulley by one tooth back and see if that helps?

Any help much appreciated!

Default Assuming that this is a 1.8t, why not use the factory timing marks?

If it's a 30v, use the tools.

Default That is normal

First if the car is running....then you should be ok.
If i can remember correctly, the new belt has a extra tooth, and also one of the rollers is slightly larger.
So, yes.....when i did mine the cam timing mark was dead on. Howerver when i got the belt on at the bottom(crank) the timing mark was off by 2-3mm.....You should be fine!! From what i understand,if your off a tooth, you gonna be cracking/bending valves...

Default 1 tooth off wont break/bend valves as I understand, but the compression will be lower and the engine

will be really pissed off. That is it probably wont idle well, and will be lower on power...
