Tip Chip compatability

So... it looks like I'm going to be trading my car in, most likely for a black 2000 1.8T 5 speed.

When I got my car chipped I got stock chips from GIAC for both the ECU and the tranny.
The dealership knows my car is chipped... they already did an appraisal on my car and I can't really argue with it considering how much work I know they'll have to do before they resell it. I did however tell them that I'd be putting the stock chip back in and I intend to do so.

But I know someone who's interested in getting a Tip Chip for his 98 Passat. Does anyone know if it would simply be a matter of swapping tranny control units with him?

different ECUs...

however he can get the software reflashed and installed at any GIAC dealer for a small fee.

If I give him just the chip?

Because even though I'm selling it I need an ECU in my car

Won't they have to install a socket for it on his then AND reflash it?

It just does not plug right in.

About how much would they charge him for that? Would it be worth it for him then?

Cost... depends on who you send it to.

Probably a rough guestimate of $50.00 for install and $20.00 for reflash.

don't forget shipping.
