Tiptronic problem

1999.5 A4 Tiptronic stopped working.
In auto mode - mode indicator not showing what gear it's in. P, N. 2,3 4 When placed in Tip mode does not shift nor does dash display change to show gear position 1,2,3,4,5. Seems to drive and shift normally in Auto mode. Any ideas?

I just replaced bulb in front headlight.
Any possible connection to that?

I don't have a Tiptronic, but it seems highly unlikely that the headlight is at fault...

I don't see how the headlight would interfer with the circut. If you can, scan the TCM with VAG-COM and see if you get an error message.

It seems to me I've read about a similar problem on here

Search the archives. It most certainly is a problem with the tranny computer.

Most def. a computer prob. I had similar symptoms when I got a bad tip-chip

your magnetic strip on the shifter is out of place or not working.

Most likely the shifter mechanism is faulty

Bad tip-chip eh? Is that a real (ongoing) problem with those? Thinking of getitng one soon...

No just the one as far as I know. Actually I think it was a bad solder on the socket.

They quickly fixed it and it has been flawless aver since.

Happened to me too. Magnetic strip was the problem.

I had mine replaced under warranty, but i'm pretty sure it was a cheap fix at the dealer.

I just checked and it was $22 in parts and 2.5hrs labor @$70/hr. So I guess it wasn't that cheap of a fix afterall.
