Default Transmission gear exposed

Hi. al
I was looking at my 2003 Audi A4 1.8T transmission. The driver side. I noticed that on the top of the transmission there is an open hole, that seems should be close/sealed in some way. I could see the gear. When i started the car, and looked at the hole, i cloud see the gear turning. I need to know what is the name to the part/piece that seals this hole.
