Triple bell when opening ABS module in VCDS
When I use VCDS/VAG-COM to open the ABS control module (address 3), the ABS light comes on and the brake light flashes. Is that normal? If I then start the engine and press the brake a few times, a triple bell will also ring. Is that normal? (I have not cleared the auto transmission's normal brake fault code before opening the ABS module).
There are no fault codes found in the module at any time, all 4 wheel sensors are returning good data through the measuring blocks.

It's normal for the ABS to beep 3 times when it's got a problem. But if you CAN access the ABS ...
controller through the OBDII port, than it's either an intermittent fault, or no fault.

Every time, what?
Every time the ABS control module is opened in VCDS? Every time the brake is pressed?
I don't get it to ring at all if the engine is not running. When the engine is running, it will happen either immediately upon starting the engine or opening the ABS module, once the brake is pressed, after pressing the brake several times, once the measuring blocks are opened, or once the car starts moving.
This is normal behavior, is that what you are saying?

No, it's NOT normal. It is normal for the ABS to beep when you access teh ABS control module..
with a scan tool. But if you do not have the scan tool connected to the ABS controller, it's not normal for it to beep at all.

okay, well this issue is only while connected to the scan tool, so ...
Even though it doesn't always happen at the same event while connected, everything appears to be okay?

Does it ever happen when the scan tool is NOT connected? If so, something's wrong.
if it's not giving you codes, that's bad, but not surprising. Check the fault codes for the instrument cluster.

"this issue is only while connected to the scan tool..." = End of story
Stop thinking so hard on this. If you access any Bosch ABS unit in any car regardless of who made the car, it is going to beep in some manner to let you know it is in diag mode.
