two problems
1. Is it normal for the oil to smeel like fuel. This has been going on for a while, and 2 dealers have blown me off. One said that it was due to hard starting in the morning, and the other just ignored me.
2. Took my folks up to Yosemite this weekend. After pulling out of a dirt lot, I noticed that the car was making a kind of whining.grinding sound when starting from a standstill. The sound seems to be coming from the left front area, though a friend who was sitting in the back thought it was coming from behind him. The sound is not present in neutral or reverse, but can be heard when I have the car in drive, and press the gas with my foot on the brake as well. Sometimes it dissappears. It clearly seems to have something to do with the transmission, but I dont know what.
Any Ideas?
thanks

1. I'd suspect head gaskets
2. You're on the right track; drivetrain related.
Transmission or maybe center or rear
differential. (Don't forget, quattro opens
up a whole can of worms not present with front
wheel drive.)
Where should I go to get the transmission looked at/serviced. Should it be ready for a trans. oil already?
