"I have a late 1999 1.9tdi and I'm told that the LX cluster is for a 1.6 Petrol". Could tell you were British due to the "Petrol Engine". The LED unit alone can be replaced..there are several vendors of the LEDs in the US. I have heard that soldering them is a bugger though, and you really need to hand it to a place that does radio repair or similar. Take a look here: http://www.ebay.com/itm/LCD-CLUSTER-...item43b124499a

dilemma
Today I've purchased an LCD cluster and a wiper arm out of a 96 or 97 A4 hoping I could switch my non LCD one out. I have a 1996 audi a4. After removing my cluster I realized that my black plug has only 8 pins instead of 20. Can I install that cluster in my car?
My cluster:

New cluster with LCD:

For some reason donor car had a red 20 pin plug instead of black.

On the first page I have provided pin layout for Full size LCD cluster that you bought, there is no pin layout for the cluster that you have originally in the car with 8 pin connector, none of the repair manuals has it all of them have info on Full size Cluster, you have to trace the wires , I am not sure if on this forum go through each page or other forum someone was doing that but don't know if he posted his findings about the 8 pin connector

Hi audifirst,
I think I am the person you are referring to about the 8-pin socket. We talked in Oct 2011.
My notes show:
1. The connector is 10 pins, but the socket on the cluster is 8 pins.
2. The part 8D0 919 272B on the cluster is a separate plugin unit that displays the gear (just automatic?) selection and the outside temp. When we talked, my outside temp never worked and I found out I was missing 3 wires from the harness that goes to this connector. The dealer said I needed a new temp computer.
3. Pin out of the connector:
Pin Colour Description
1 Blk/Red. +ve
2 ???
3 Brn/Yel Outside air temp
4 Gry/Blu Back light
5 ???
6 Brn ground
7 Wht/Blu Speed signal 2
8 Blk/Brn Transmission selector
9 Brn ground
10 ???
Hope this helps people out. And sorry for not posting my work in 2011!
Mark

I have two of the same year A4 B5 FL 2000.
One is Computer (3x32 pin) and the other is half Computer (only 2x32 pin Blue and Green) How I raise my full computer cluster to the half computer cluster. It would be necessary to the manual.
I want everything works.
