Update... cylinder 1 misfire. Switched the ignition coil that was on 1 to....
2 and cleared the codes 16684 (rndom cylndr misfire)and 16685 (cylndr 1 misfire). Drove the car to find it still misfiring (did it about about 5 times in 2 mins.) no engine light this time. It seemed that switching the coils reduced the misfiring slightly. Couldn't get any codes. Any suggestions. Your help is much appreciated.
And if I do replace my coils, are the ECS a good choice. They are on sale.<ul><li><a href="http://www.ecstuning.com/stage/edpd/pagebuild_v2.cgi?make=Audi&engine=1.8T&mod el=B5%20A4&submodel=Quattro&category=Engin e&subcategory=Electricial">http://www.ecstuning.com/stage/edpd/pagebuild_v2.cgi?make=Audi&

What year and is it still misfiring on cylinder 1 or did the misfire move to 2?
You can check this by listening to the engine while you take out coil packs. If it's pre-2000 (I think that's the year), it could be your ignition control module of the misfire stays on the same cylinder. It's repairable, but easier to buy one on ebay.

01' the misfires are not being detected now that I moved it...
no engine light... no codes.. but trust it's misfiring like crazy causing violent shaking to occur under acceleration. Why would the codes for the misfires not be showing up?

the plugs definitely need to go, but...
I don't have a torque wrench, so its just another thing I need to buy. so if its not the plugs and it's the coils at least i know what i need. I don't think that its the ICM because the misfire was on cylinder 1, which is not a sign of a bad ICM. Why is their no trace of these misfire in memory?
