Used AHA, lots of noise
I put a used AHA in a B5. Started right up, but it makes a lot of noise... a bit like a diesel. If I put a stethescope on the cam tensioners, the sound is no stronger than anywhwere else in the motor. It almost sounds a bit like lifter noise. In fact you could talk me into believing I just don't have oil pressure up in the heads.
I do not have an oil light. But that just measures pressure at the oil switch, not up in the heads. The sound is so bad I hate to run it for more than a few seconds.
This motor had sat for a while so it was bone dry though there was oil in the pan.
I've read of guys pulling the plugs and turning a dry motor with an electric drill to push oil up through the engine. Is that what I need to do?

The oil is getting there. It just takes forever for everything to pump up with oil again. Sounds really scary until it does finally quiet down. BTDT many times and it still bothers me - lol
