VAG tool for MY 1996-1999.5...Does anyone know if they all use the same VAG Tool??

The genuine VAG tools are really expensive...
...something like $1500 or so. However, there are a few pieces of software out there for Windows machines that will allow you to access much of the OBD data just like the VAG tool. These software packages are $250-$400 or so. Sorry I don't have any names or URL's for you.

The "Personal Version" or "Basic Level" sells for around $300. I do own the Personal Version and like it alot. The OBDII ISO models work on both Audi and BMW (I personally tested this).
