Default Victory at last! The charging system saga continues...

My apologies for anyone who's getting sick of reading my posts on this topic. On my 2000 ATW, I have had a mysterious problem and replaced the alternator 3 times. After the second alternator, I spoke with a regional manager, who told me that it was unlikely that I got 2 defective alternators, much less a third defective one. I agreed- it doesn't make much sense. Today, I took my car to Autozone after several hours of exhaustive electrical system tests to have them do their version of charging system tests. The "technician" said there was no way that it was the alternator- that it must be a wiring problem with the car (I replied that I thought they were shipping alternators with defective regulators- he shrugged it off). After his initial diagnosis, he ran the test. The machine came up with the answer I was expecting- "VOLTAGE REGULATOR DEFECTIVE" I am assuming that this is internal to the alternator. I need to get my car into a usable state ASAP. other than a dealer, where should I go for a new alternator? Worldpac doesn't carry the exact alternator (Valeo 120A for ATW engine) and the dealership stocks it for a mere $600 (which I can't afford). Any suggestions are welcome. Thanks!
