Weight advantage w/out Convenience Pkg?...
... I read a post on the VWVortex forum yesterday where somebody said that not having the convenience package on an S4 saves 200 lbs. I assume the same would hold for an A4. Does this sound realistic? I'd guess something more like 30-50 lbs., if that.

It could be that much. It's still insignificant when you consider the total weight of the car.

Bad location for the extra weight
Someone posted in the past about the location of the weight of the sunroof being a problem. The weight is at the top of the car which will cause a bit more body roll, etc.

Must have sun!
The slight weight gain could effect the performance, that only makes sense. But that weight being at the top of the car will hardly induce a rollover. And hasn't anyone considered the aerodynamics of the car with the roof open. That is sure to slow it down, right? But, living in Florida has its advantages, one of which is open top motoring. Love it, Got to have it.

Even if that's the case, unless you are a professional racer it shouldn't matter (more)
That weight savings may buy you a few tics of the 1/4 mile time in a drag race or maybe a half second off your lap time if you're doing track events. But, how much of that stuff do you really do? Most people spend 99.9% of their time in the car going to work and the grocery store. Does it make sense to give up some of the things that make the car nice for the rare time when you need the extra performance? If you take out the passenger seat, the back seat, the spare, the jack, the radio, the a/c etc. you can probably save some more weight. BTW, I don't mean to sound snide, but it is a street car we're talking about.

When Istook/Aines stripped their S4 for racing, they found the weight of the sunroof to be 30 lbs.
That included the entire sunroof, bracket assembly and motor. I doubt the homelink visor transmitter and auto-dimming mirrors add up to another 170 lbs.

Exactly. 1 wknd, I went on a roadtrip with about 200 lbs of gardening supplies...
in the trunk of my Toyota (no way that dirty slop is going into my Audi!). For a trip that I normally average 35mpg, I got about 26.
