Weird smell when idle in neutral at stop.

Don't know which transmission is in your car, but electromechnical transmissions can be wet or dry clutch. If you have a dual clutch and they are dry clutches...it is possible that one/both are not properly disengaging when you shift to neutral, resulting in yes, a burning clutch smell. Normally in any electromechnical transmission, touching the brake pedal, dropping to zero mph and minimum rpm, etc. tell the transmission to release the clutches. And if they don't disengage...burned clutch, and smell. If you are under warranty, "Takee Fixee". If you are not...still needs to be looked into.
You've got a sharp noise if you're able to be sure it is clutch smell!

Could it be oil leaking onto hot components? This is frequent for these cars if you have not done the usual gaskets and such for an Audi this age.
