What are the benefits of a boost gauge or are they just fun to look at?

one of largest benefits in my mind is for cool down purposes
You can actually see how much boost your making when your trying to cool down the last few minutes of the drive. It's the only surfire way to know.

Still don't understand why Audi never made this standard in the A4
I had a 4000S a few years back, and that thing had VDO gauges up the wazoo!! And that was for a naturally aspirated motor!
so... What happened? Did Audi feel that gauges make the interior look cluttered or sumtin?? Wish my car had a boost gauge... That way I'd be able to see if my turbo was working or if it's suffering from the broken wastegate problem (before you ask I have a slushbox auto with nothing to compare it to, so it's difficult for me to tell)...

The A4 is designed as low boost - so low you don't even know
it is a tubocharged engine. They must have thought a turbo had some negative connotations in their target market. So the Dilbert answer is, THE MARKETING GUYS THREW IT OUT.
