WHAT is this CLUNKING in my steering?!
Whenever I turn my steering wheel while driving at low speeds or at a standstill..... clunk clunk clunk. I turn it to the right..... clunk. Turn it to the left.... clunk. Sometimes one clunk, sometimes two, sometimes more. Back in November, the dealership said the control arms were shot. Then they pulled the car apart and said that it was the steering rack and Audi denied the repair on the basis that my car is lowered which "caused the tie rods to be at an improper angle and caused premature failure of the steering rack". I went to an independent mechanic and paid $1500 to have the rack swapped out. From the moment I picked it up, the car still clunked. After half a year of clunking, I had enough. Took it to another mechanic on Tuesday. He's been working on it since then, and he THINKS the sound is coming from the middle of teh steering rack! WAH!!!! HOW CAN THAT BE?! He's actually dropping the steering column now to see if it's not a problem in there. He is totally puzzled. I AM TOTALLY PISSED! WHAT IS CLUNKING!? ARGHHHH!!!!!! ::RANT::
