wouldn't the lack of temperature sensor make the check engine light stay on? anyone know how to get around that?

iirc it mounts in the oval hole shown on this unit.

Are you sure it is even a temp sensor.
If your talking about the oval metal piece on the box, I thinkn that was there as a mounting bracket used to mount the ign amp. If you look at the new evo intake or even the PES T28 kit which uses a metal intake tube with a filter on it, they both end up just mounting the ign amp to the top on a bracket.

Here are a few links of the EVO intake since I am not sure if you have a 1.8 or 2.8
<a href="http://www.evoms.com/a%20a4%2018%20%20intake%20pic.htm">1.8t intake</a>
<a href="http://www.evoms.com/a%20a4%2028%20intake%20pic%20page.htm">2.8 intake</a>
Notice the new plate just sits on top of the intake tube to hold what was on the old plate on the stock box.
