Default What do I REALLY need for a clutch replacement?

I just ordered the Southbend OFE Stage 3... Going to start ripping the car apart tomorrow... I have all tools that I need but just curious about the parts... Trying to merge onto the freeway yesterday and shifted into 4th with the engine reving to 5k in a matter of seconds... I had been smelling gear oil for the majority of the day too so I will need an input shaft seal... How hard are those to replace? This is a list of what I found in the DIY but what do I really need?

Of course inspect/resurface the FW, clutch kit is taken care of... Do I need new flywheel bolts? And what does it mean by shorter than stock? This is my first clutch replacement but not tranny replacement...

Flywheel
Clutch
Pressure plate
Flywheel bolts (shorter than stock bolts)
Pressure plate bolts (same as stock bolts)
Throwout bearing
Clutch alignment tool - not necessary, but helpful
Driveaxle or driveshaft bolts - in case you muck up the ones you have.
New lock-nuts for the turbo - Bentley manual says to replace them, I didn't
New drive axle and driveshaft seals - Bentley manual says to replace them, I didn't

Default Yes, you MUST REPLACE flywheel bolts

The FW are stretch torqued, one time use only. What flywheel are you using? I got the same instructions "Shorter than stock bolts", but it turned out that the stock bolts fit perfectly.

Clutch alignment tool should come in the box from SBC.

Search for my posts from November concerning clutch install, also look for Romaudi's posta also.

Shorter than stock comes from the difference between stock flywheel thinkness and LWFW Thickness

Default While you're in there I would also suggest:

1. Face and balance the flywheel, mine REALLY needed it
2. New pilot bearing
3. New main seal
4. New Tranny input seal

It's your call on the slave cylinder or the release bearing arm/pivot, I didn't replace either.

Just remember, you only want to yank that Tranny once!

What all is involved in doing the rear main and pilot bearing? Drop the oil pan at all?
