Default What would be a great project car to learn about cars/car engines on?

I know very little about cars and car engines and I want to learn more so I can install parts/fix parts on my car myself. I was thinking of getting an older Audi Quattro and playing around with that. Maybe fixing it up and using it as my winter car or something. Any other suggestions for good, fun to work on older cars? I was also thinking of an older subaru. Thanks,

Brett

Default Best bet is an old mustang or camaro, but an older audi would work

The reason I say mustang or camaro is that the parts are everywhere and they are relatively cheap. Make your mistakes there and then move on to something else. Generally, anything older (read early 80's or older) is much less complicated from a computer/pollution control standpoint. Avoid turbos!! Best bet is a simple V6 or V8.

Default Easiest and cheapest option you could possibly find would be......

anything with a Ford 5.0. I know its not a VW or audi or scoob, but if you want easy, and cheaper than you can imagine, get an old mustang! Plus itll break all the time so youll HAVE to learn how to fix it!

If you're going with an older Audi, avoid the 5 cylinders like the plague

Karmann made the Ghia. IIRC, they also do the VW Cabriolet top work.
