Why are FWD mufflers different from Quattro mufflers

I just purchased a 99 A4 1.8t and noticed that my muffler is different than quattro mufflers. The guy I bought it from says everything on the car is original

"plumbing" needs to be different to clear the additional quattro drivetrain parts

The quattro muffler has a "dent" so it can clear the quattro's gas tank, too.

The resonator is different, hence the location of the output pipe of the resonator
