window regulator installation

Is there a tutorial or diy for this?

More important question: what size is the torx on the side of the door? The really big one? Seems like if I can get that big torx off, the whole assembly will come off the door.

Thanks!

Nice! Thanks for the link! Too bad the writeup's images are all broken... oh well, better than going in blind right?

Did you do the install yourself, or did you have it done? It says I need to nab 6 rivets for this... is that 6 per side, or 6 for both sides, total? And do they need to be special Germanic awesomesauce rivets, or is that something I can grab at my local autozone?

Thanks!

I had a local autoglass shop install it for $75. You need 6 rivets per door. I ordered the rivets from the same website but they didnt fit properly. The autoglass shop had some they pulled out of a "cache o' rivets" box so I guess there is nothing special to them.

I watched them do it the whole time and the hardest part was drilling out the rivets. Make sure your glass is rolled down before you start and reinstall all the foam to keep road noise down.

Blows my mind that Audi doesn't sell the cheesy little green clip that holds the window to the rail. Also astounds me that they would use a crappy plastic clip to hold a metal bracket that in turn holds the window.

Is it possible to simply replace the green plastic part? I mean, it's too late for me, I've already bought the whole regulator assembly, but for posterity's sake.

Yeah, I noticed that there's two 'types' of rivets for the A4 on that site - mid-98' there must've been some kind of crazy upheaval at Audi where they decided to change the type of rivets used, who knows lol. O_o

By the way, also for posterity's sake, here's a link to the video of an Audi A6 window regulator install.

At the time, they were selling the whole regulator for like $35, so didnt care about the little clip, it was shattered by the way, just like the leaded disc in my central lock pump.

Awesome man, thank you so much!!! That's money right there.

Yeah, I picked up the regs for $50/each. Not expensive, you're right, but it just seems like a flaw in the system to use plastic parts on what is clearly a potential failure point. And dealer pricing for OEM regulators is $204 *each*, which was what I originally thought I was gonna end up paying for the stupid things, lol.

Thanks for the links man! Really appreciate it! :D
