Wire upsizing
I'm in the middle of installing 600+ watts of amplification and have
noticed that the wire from the alternator to the battery is only 6 gauge.
Has anyone upgraded their alternator wire size? How hard is it?
I couldn't find anything in the archives, and looking down from
above it doesn't appear to be easy.
(Upsizing the ground on the other hand is quite easy as the grounding
point tied to negative is just below the battery).
Thanks,
-- John

Re: Wire upsizing
Hi John,
I don't think you really need to upgrade the wire from the alternator to the battery, but
you should run a heavy gauge wire from the battery to either a distribution block , if
you're running multiple amps or direct to a single amp. I'm running 4 gauge with
a circuit breaker (within a foot of the battery) to the trunk and into a distribution block
which splits it into 8 gauge feeds for each amp.
Hope this helps!
DaveW
98.5 2.8 QM
