Did you ever solve the issue? I have the exact same issue...EXACT! I have been trying for weeks to figure out and stuck.

Yeah. I finally solved the problem. The root cause is the wrong sequence of the spark plug wires.
Not sure if it was my fault (although I used a tape to mark the sequence before I took them out and put it exactly the same) or something else.
I also needed to remove the wire extension out (not sure if you have one) and re-sequence them. Not sure it helps but it works in my case.
Just make sure everything, Cam chain (16 teeth apart), TDC, Crankshaft pulley, etc., is lined up (you may use my pictures above as a reference).
Once you are sure everything is good. Use your hand to rotate everything for couple times and see if all the marks still line up. If not something is wrong.

Wow...i would never have thought to try that, but it did start right up after i found the right sequence. It is crazy that the longest wire goes to the cylinder closest. Thanks for your quick reply!
