Would I be able to re-import an A4 to Germany?
I am thinking about buying a 1.8 quattro manual. Felt great during the test drive, so I want to have it now.
But I believe an US-bought A4 has been modified to meet local regulations?
As I may return to Germany in a year or so, would I be able to take the car back with me (re-import it to Germany) without major modifications?
Anyone any experience with this? Costs involved?
Thanks a lot.

I just came from Germany. I can tell you the lights are different for sure. It may be better to try to contact the dealer where you will be moving to. Although Germans pay a lot for their A4s, I would recommend buying one there. They have a nasty 16% Value Added Tax. And if you import it you will pay the 10% import tax. So you may have to add 26% to the value of your car plus modifying at least the lights and the cost of shipping. Take care and good luck.

Yes, but you have to pass the TUV...
the German inspection is pretty strict... you will have to change the headlights, put V-rated tires on (autobahn speeds), change the license holder, put in rear fog lamp (if not there already). I did this in '90 w/ an Audi 5000. Auf Wiedersehen, T
