WWAWB5 do: Just had a door opened into my car. Contact their insurance? (long)

Here's the deal:

I was in my car ('98 A4) getting ready to pull out of a space & all of a sudden the driver's rear door of the older Pontiac Grand Prix beside me is opened into my car. It hit just behind my passenger rear door. It left a mark on the pain & a decent dent. The door was opened with alot of force, but it was done by a young child (3 or 4 y/o maybe).

I got out, stuck my head in the still open door & asked the guy (a rather large black man - yeah I know, racist) in the front seat if I could have his insurance info. He said it was his wife (or GF's) car & she was inside the laundry mat. I then asked if he could get her for me. He gets out, comes over & looks at where it hit & says "its just a scratch, why you gotta be such a dick about it?". I responded that I would give him my info if me or my kid (if I had any) opened our doors into their car.

He goes in & gets the wife (who is very pregnant), they both come out & proceed to call me names (fvcking a-hole, dick, etc) because I want the insurance info. She hesitates, but does start to write it down while the guy gets in my face & continues to tell me what a dick I am because his kid did it by accident. The wife tells me that "people like you (me) are what's wrong with this world".

Do I try to file a claim with their insurance or just let it go? In the beginning I didn't plan to, but the more they acted the way they did & the closer I looked at the dent after I got home, now I think maybe I should.

Here's a crappy pic:

Definitely file the claim...

Why should the value of your car be diminshed by some dickhead's child? Isn't that what they make child locks for? I think their attitude would have been enough for me to call the police and report the incident!

The law compells them to provide the insurance info. If they hassled me, I'd dick them.

The time for Mr. Nice Guy is over when they ****-talked you.

bassed-ndzmorezone5 06-09-2008 04:56 PM

I would, people who don't monitor a 3 or 4 year old in a parking lot.....

are the problem. The guy was in your face and lacked tact, it's on now.

I would call their insurance. Funny how they said you were what's wrong with the world.

it's not irresponsible trash who don't own up to their and their kids' mistakes who are the problem

I never even thought of calling the police, but in retrospect I wish I would have.

I would try Dent Wizard...

They took care of a dent on the trunk of her '01 B5 to the point that even I couldn't tell where it was. I would post a picture of the after, but it looks like new.

Linked

File a claim and

stop being racist.

Done.

Call the police as soon as they give you a hard time?

4Driver4 06-09-2008 05:15 PM

Yup. Get a body shop estimate for a fix and paint, give them that, then have dent guy fix.
