Default 2002 A4 1.8 won't start

Hi,
When attempting to go to work yesterday, I tried starting my car, but it seemed the battery was dead. Oddly, the engine wouldn't even attempt to turn over, no clicking noises, but the dashboard lights would come on. I worked from home, and asked my roommate for a jump the next morning. Well today was the next morning, and when we went to try and jump it, no luck. This time, the lights on the dash won't even come on. When I turn the key, literally nothing happens. I think now that it might be the starter, but don't really have a ton of experience with cars. Does anyone have any ideas? Is there a fuse dedicated for the starter that I can check? Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,
B

Sounds like the battery, is it original?

No, I had the battery replaced last winter, and I remember when that had died, my engine would still click when I would try and start it, that's why I'm thinking it may be the starter.

Default Take the battery to Autozone for testing. They can tell you if it's a dud.

And if it is, get a new one under warranty. Batteries last longer than that.

Default So with it hooked up to a running car with jumpers you dont even get the dash to light up?

Ignition switch? Hook it up with jumpers and test the voltage between your battery terminals, you should be over 13V. If you are over 13V and your dash wont light up its not the battery, its something else. Probably not hte starter either... my money is on a problem in the electical system with the ignition.

Ask Diagnosticator.

Audi and VW have had frequent recurrent problems with ignition switches.

Default Primary/secondary terminals could be loose or ****ted up.You can have corrosion that is undetectable

There are screw connectors on the terminals which directly supply the starter. Check those puppies out. Who installed the batt last year anyway. I like to do my own for a few reasons, inc cleaning the batt tray.
