Default Wheel and tire questions

I am a newbie to this A4 forum, but not to Audis in general and was pretty active on this site when I had my 91 200TQ 20V cars.

I am getting a 2002 A4 Avant this week, and I am already working on some wheels and tires. The car is a 1.8T with a 5 speed, Bose, sport suspension, winter package and HID lights. White with black interior, one owner always garaged and 49k miles.

I just bought a set of Blizzaks on Hartman 17" wheels so I have that covered. The guy I bought those from also had a set of 18" tires off his S4. The tires are 245/40 18.

I spent a lot of time searching but never found the answer. Is anyone running this size tire on their A4 and if so, what width and ET do you run and what rubbing issues do you have if there is rubbing?

Thanks!

Sounds like a great find. My old 02 sport had 187K when I got it. My current 03, just over 100K. Wish I only had 49K!

Being from Texas, I have no experience with switching to winters; just not necessary. Maybe someone else does.

Welcome!

Sorry - no personal experience but the tyre size calculator at http://www.miata.net/cgi-bin/tirescgi gives a diameter change of 0.2" between 235/40x18 and 245/40x18. There are folks around that are running the 235 size on B6's and that is the standard sports tire size on the B7. Wouldn't expect you to have any rubbing problems with the 245; I think clearing brake calipers is the bigger issue you are likely to face.
