Default 2004 B6 Driver Information Display (DIS) I figured it out!

According to the new 2004 dealer brochures the 2004 Premium Package will include something called Driver Information Display (DIS). Having a look at Audi UK website and playing with the configurator I came to the conclusion that the DIS is nothin more than what ALL US A4 have been getting. Apparently it is an updgrade in the EU market that costs 300 pounds. Seems like Audi is cutting corners and no longer includes this in the base A4 1.8T hence the addition in the premium package.

But given that over 90% of A4 sold in the US have the premium package it is not that big of an issue. just one more reason to get the premium package for prospective buyers.

For illustration here is a picture of the stock center information display:

And here is the DIS (looks just like all the other A4 dash that are currently on the road in the US)

Note that kind of the same thing is going on with VW Passat, only the W8 gets the DIS screen all the other Passats get a screen half its size.

Feel free to chime in if you think otherwise but this is the explanation that I could come up with.

The euro screen has color, maybe thats why it costs more? Maybe it also has some more features on it

Default Let me rephrase!

The RED display in the pciture is the DIS display that costs 300 pounds to get in the UK and used to come standard in all US A4s. The Blue one is the basic standard one that will come on non-premium 1.8Ts as far as I could dechyper it from the specs April posted earlier.

Here is the text that goes with the pics from the UK site:

multi- function indicator, without
on- board computer and check control

Driver's Information System (DIS)

Driver's Information System (DIS), digital display of: AutoCheck system which monitors the status of key functions, audio system information, two speed warning settings, external temperature, on-board computer and doors or tailgate not closed warning

Default Hmm, not sure about that. It doesn't seem logical to charge less for color...

But, I'm sure Audi will find a way.
