Well, the pic of the new A6 3.2 engine is not a narrow angle V6, so probably not the VR6 3.2

Default The 3.2L in the R32 and 250hp TT is a narrow-angle V (VR6)

based on the current 2.8L version used in the rest of the VW Jetta/GTI line.

So you're saying they will use a different 3.2L V6? Why have two engines so similar?

Default That would be the cautious approach., but all my sources including some people at Audi say....

that with the "Face Lift" coming in April 2005, there will be 2 new engines in the car, the 2.0T and the new V6. Again a week or so ago at the Canadian auto show in Toronto, dealers were told that the Face lift is coming and with more powerful motors (2.0T and new V6). a friend of mind who happens to be the sales manager and owner of the Audi dealership I deal with met and talked while at the show with a German technician who was nice enough to tell him that he had been driving a modified B6 A4 in Germany with the new 2.0T motor. Also about a month ago I met the highest ranking Audi tech in Canada (he's the one the dealers call when they have technical issues)and he told me that the last word on FSI is that it is coming to North America, that the technical problems had been worked out. Of course Audi can always change their mind.

Because packaging a VR6 longitudinally with quattro is a nightmare.

Default Not the first time Audi/VW had 2 completely different engines of the same size and hp

2.8L VR6: 172hp
2.8L Audi 90 degree V6: 172hp.

Yes its Audi's own 3.2 V6. Not the VR6.

The VR6 is a bit expensive to manufacture as well.

Default I think that is a common misconception, and I am willing to bet that the A6 3.2 is not the VR6.

I think it would be too hard to package a transverse engine into a longitudinal layout. Cheaper to just bore out the 3.0 since that is already used in the A4/A6. Remember, the transverse 1.8t and longitudinal 1.8t are very different engines (different blocks, heads, turbos, exhaust manifolds, intake manifolds, etc).

Like you, I just found myself hanging out on this forum today! Not ready to buy a B6 yet, but thought I would start checking in over here to get ready for buying one in the near future.

Default heh...well my b6 is on order..can't wait for it

so long as i'm able to get myself a decent job out of school, i should be good to go on it (shoulder deep in my job search now, got some good prospects)...i'm keeping it my tangible goal to shoot for, because i'm determined to pick up that car once it's in
