60,000 Mile DIY Service Completed !!!

Dealer Price: $450

DIY Price: $101.97

My Costs: (Tax and Shipping included where applicable)

- 7 Quarts Mobil 1 Truck and SUV (5w30) $35.46 (Walmart)
- 2 Rubber Replacement Wiper Blades $2.60 (Walmart)
- 6 NGK V-Power Spark Plugs $11.31 (Advance Auto Parts)
- Purolator Premium Plus Oil Filter $3.60 (Advance Auto Parts)
- Cabin Filter/Fresh Air Filter $24.50 (ECS Tuning)
- Air Filter $24.50 (ECS Tuning)

Now for the fun part. Actually doing the service. I have done oil changes with my friend in the past, but this was certainly a more fun experience. Not only did I save $350 by doing it "myself", but I had fun while we did it. Total time was 1.5 hours and the friend helping me/pretty much doing it all is CarFanatic for any of you veteran AW'ers. He had a pretty cool B6 and now drives a 350Z, but he is incredibly knowledgeable in every aspect of the B6!

Now for the service!

First of course a teaser pic of the supplies :)

Coilpack #1 removed... look at how the dealer wiped up after they did an oil change :(

Air Filter in... actually trickier then it looks to get that in. Audi really squeezed things together tightly.

My friend does not enjoy removing spark plugs :) Also we noticed some oil on most of the plugs ... is that a major problem?

Yours truly, MB The Body, installed the Cabin/Pollen Filter in about 2 seconds :)

My friend was pissed at how tightly Audi tightened the drain plug on the oil :)

Should I replace the snub mount?

What, huh, oil? ... my friend likes oil as you can see :)

Dirty hand meets ... clean gorilla hand... Clearly I'm on the right and very clean :)

6.3 quarts of Mobil 1 going in!

Gotta show the M BOD some love ...

did you clean the small nylon mesh screen next to the air filter? ;)

MB The Body 07-25-2006 09:03 PM

The round one leading out from the air filter ?

if so then yeah, but it was already pretty clean... the old filter was disgustingly dirty though.

rovision 07-25-2006 09:07 PM

pic. 3 to the left of the filter box, is a rectangular nylon mesh screen that you can take out

and clean! I checked mine recently, by chance, and it was almost 50% clogged at about 50k.

leonpro 07-25-2006 09:08 PM

Noice!

MB The Body 07-25-2006 09:08 PM

Nope ... we did not clean it, but we looked around and things didn't seem horribly dirty...

I will probably let that be :)

UltraRoss 07-25-2006 09:10 PM

Nicely done, good to see you getting dirty

That snub mount definitely looks a little beat up. That large hole where there used to be material is playing a tiny role in my decision here...lol. I have a new APR one that I got at 50% off from achtuning sitting in my car next to Eddiemans write up, I'm just waiting for some spare time to do the install.
Why the 5w30, I've been using 10w30 (Mobil 1) I know nothing about Oil...and my 25k service is coming up soon, so I'm just looking to learn something.

That's it!? Holy shit...

60k service on my car means timing belt time.

MB The Body 07-25-2006 09:15 PM

lol...

my hands did get slightly dirty :)

I have no exact reason for choosing 5w30, other then to say it was recommended, and I have used it in the past and liked it, so I used it again. I honestly can't tell the difference myself between any oil, so I'm not even sure how to answer your questino :)

MB The Body 07-25-2006 09:16 PM

I'm definitely not ready for the TB yet...

and whenever I choose to do that it will definitely be at an indy shop :)
