Anyone ever buy a car from Ebay?

I see some seriously SERIOUSLY good prices on there for A4's. Right now there's an 03 loaded with 27k and the buy it now price is 25k. This is through a dealership back east somewhere.

Prices on Ebay seem to average a good 15% to 20% what I see here at my local Audi and non-audi dealers. Why is this? Anyone ever actually bought a car through ebay? I'd be more than willing to fly and drive a car back 1500 miles to save 5 grand (well ok, 4500 after airfare and gas).

I've sold three of them through ebay and bought one. Good experiences.

Avoid. here's why

1. is it CPO? if not theres something wrong; if so it might be a good choice.

2. you will pay tax on the car if its from any dealer. Personal sales do not require paying tax, which can be alot (8% of 25K).

3. Most of the cars are coming off lease returns and nobody takes care of leased cars. Check the Carfax if you think its a lease return run.

Around here audi's that are perfect go for high prices, those that are hot deals, go so fast its not even funny, ebay is a last straw place to buy/sell/advertise.

don't buy from a northern area they tend to be wrecked and have rust affect as opposed to the south where rust is unheard of. Wrecks less likely. i've seen some nice outside, rusted/beat up undercarriages from snow driven cars.

I wouldn't drive my audi around down in ATL when it snows lol, once every 3 years.

When registering a car you should have to pay sales tax at the DMV.

I've sold on eBay...good experience....never bought, but would if I had the chance.

Just be smart and have the car checked out before you buy and make sure you see it in person and have the right to refuse it if you see anything that wasn't disclosed in the auction description.

i found my 02 audi a4 new at a audi dealership in texas off ebay..but completed the deal outside ...

of ebay. I got my 02 A4 3.0 CVT for $28000 and the sticker was for $36,995. I had the car looked over by another audi dealership and they spotted nothing wrong. Also ran the service history of the vehicle. Since it was new, the only done was a key recode.

I would look at carfax and also get the vin# and verify the warranty service record with the dealer. The will usually print it out at no charge.
I paid my sales tax in illinois not texas. Out of state purchases you shouldn't have to pay tax. If the dealer says you do, then back out. Make sure you tax delivery of the car not a shipping company. I bought a one way ticket to texas(actually used my frequent flier miles) and took delivery - drove it back. I made sure everything worked before i signed the papers.

you pay sales tax when you buy from an individual!

the only way you do not is if you live in a state (for ex. New Hampshire) that does not have sales tax.

Like bhvrdr said, you pay the sales tax, not to the person you buy it from, but when you register it at the DMV

it would be cheaper to ship the car....

plus you wouldn't be putting the extra mileage on it.
