Armrest mod: defeating the ratcheting action of the armrest

I drive with the center console armrest in the lowest position.

Since day 1, it's been bugging me that everytime I apply the handbrake, I have to raise the armrest up by a notch or two or more. Then when I start driving again, I have to squeeze the armrest adjustment handle to lower it again.

So I took apart the armrest base and shoved a folder piece of paper into the mechanism, and voila! Now the armrest will always go to the lowest setting automatically. Bliss.

UPDATE:
How to access the back of the armrest [THE HARD WAY].
The following instructions refer to the base of the armrest, where the point of axis is.
- Pull off the passenger side plastic cover, starting from the top, where it's round. No screws, just pull gently.
- Pull off the driver side plastic cover.
- Raise the armrest to a vertical position. Look at the base of the armrest from the front of the car. You'll see a seam where the plastic parts meet. Just pull gently to separate the seam.
- Lower the armrest and hop in the back seat. Grab the cover piece on both sides of the armrest, right below the armrest lid. Again, pull gently and the entire piece should come off, revealing what you see in the picture below.

How to access the back of the armrest [THE EASY WAY].
- Just do the last step in the instructions above. As I sit at work thinking about it, I can't see why you would need to remove the side covers, nor seperate the seam before pulling off the back cover. I have yet to try this, so please tell me if it works.

I hope this helps!
See the white piece of paper in the photo below.
