These look like very heavy tires (27 Lbs for 235/45/17 size).
Do people notice the difference from lighter tires (e.g. 24 lbs for ContiExtre contact)?

Depends on what you use your car for....
 

if it is track use then the weight will make a difference, if it is just driving around town, then it will not make that much of a difference...as a comparison our T1R weighs 24.8 lbs, the Proxes 4 is 24.1 lbs and the RA1 is 23.9 lbs in that size...

But I've put on nearly 2k on these tires and I love them. They handle great in the wet weather (Seattle) and are quieter than the stock tires.

How would you be able to tell the weight of the tires in driving? I mean we're talking maybe only slightly over a 10 pound difference for the car overall?

Yes, one of the best tires I have ever owned.....and cheap!
 

Yes, they are a balanced compromise but for most owners this is the tire they were looking for. I actually try to find deep standing water to drive in....I can't believe how much hydroplane reistance is designed in. We are to get a few inches of wet snow in northeastern PA mountains tomorrow....so I will see how the snow performance is.
