From BMW To Audi
Hello all, if this thread is in the wrong section please feel free to move it where it needs to be. I currently own a 2002 BMW 330i and am looking to make the switch to Audi. I honestly don't know much about the cars and am looking for some insight about the A4 model from 2002-2005. I've driven a few BMWs over the years, but this current one has pushed me past my breaking point. I purchased it a little over 4 months ago and had a pre-purchase inspection. Everything checked out at the time, but it has been nothing but problems over the last three months. I am all too familiar with the common problems that are typical with BMWs and I'm ready to see if Audis are perhaps a better fit for me. The chronic issues that plague BMWs in this particular model year have made me realize I should look into a different brand of car and I've always been intrigued by the design of Audis.
I'm looking for some basic information about the A4. How reliable is the car mechanically? If anyone is familiar with both BMW and Audi and can tell me if Audis face similar common problems like BMWs that would be great. How much would I be looking at spending per year for maintenance on these cars? What are the trouble spots that seem to need the most attention and most repair work on these older models? Any and all help and advice would be much appreciated. I look forward to posting here.
Thanks!

Looking through these threads would be a good guide I think. But when talking about cars 15 years old or more, all kinds of things can go wrong. Now, my 2005 V6 has over 213,000 miles, which I drive every day, around 90 miles total. It has been very reliable for the most part, but things wear out. For instance, in the past several years, I've replaced the radiator, power steering rack and pump, wheel bearings, front suspension control arms, and fuel pump, on top routine maintenance. I've done it all in my own garage, but without such a setup and tools, those things would have been expensive. The upside is that it still looks great and cruises effortlessly at 90.
