Default Cold weather starts.

When you start your car in cold weather, -2 or 28 (this mornings temp) Does your Audi always kick into high idle around 1200rpm for a while.

I notice that after my car has sat overnight it only idles high 50% of the time with all other conditions being the same.

This morning it was cold and it dropped right into its normal 800rpm idle speed right after startup.

Shouldn't it always high idle in those conditions?

Default when ever the car has been sitting for a while and the computer determine's that it's not....

*warm enough* it'll kick it into high idle after start up, shouldn't matter if its cold or hot outside.

Possibly the control unit that controls that is not working correctly...

Default

Did I read last winter of cold weather starting problems in cars with ecu upgrades (chipped)?

Default I think you're right. Wednesday am, when the temp was 30 (m)

but the car was in the sun - no high idle. Thursday am, when it was more like 45 but overcast - high idle kicked in.

Default yes....normal is high RPMS when cold....

It will drop down the RPMS as soon as you put it in drive or probably when you push in the clutch. If you don't touch anything it will drop as soon as it sees the coolant starting to warm up (probably needs to see a certain delta). Did it drop immediately after starting the car before touching the shifter/clutch?

Default My experience has been...

That in mildly to moderately cold weather, cold starting results in high RPM idle for the first couple minutes. In severely cold weather, cold starting results in low RPM idle. Combine this with a snub mount and the car vibrates like a sex toy.

Default I asked the exact same question a few weeks ago

The car started like this a couple of times when it was very cold (25F or below), but was back to normal when the outside temps warmed up. From searching around, the same question seems to have been asked by multiple people in the past. I think it's normal.

It drops straight down, it never holds a fast idle

Well at least I am not alone, it goes against conventional wisdom doesn't it?

Default so far, the coldest has been 30-35 here after work and it does high idle. Even when I put the (more)

car into gear, the car still fast idles, so really I don't even have to give it some gas to get the car going, the high idle does it for me. However, in the Tip-Tronic loaners i've gotten, once you put it into reverse or drive, the high idle drops. Opposite of manual transmissions.

The high idle should hold for a minute-1.5 minutes to warm up the cat converters quicker for better emissions.

I've never seen a car go immediately to low idle upon a cold startup...unless the high idle control is whacked.
