CVT impressions
Right now I have about 5400 miles on this car and Ive had it for around 4 months. I drive mostly on large highways and average about 70-80mph. This is my first Audi and I have to say I love this car in every way.
The CVT : I chose the CVT because I wanted an auto for the heavy traffic I encounter and the fact that I got tired of a manual. At first, the CVT feels weird. Acceleration is very linear and the rpm stays around 2500-3000 rpms (normally) while the speedo keeps moving up. Not feeling the car shift was a weird experience for me at first, but I quickly got used to it. Braking is a little different. Right when you get down to about 10-5 mph, you fell a slight vibration in the transmission. Now I know if I had a regular auto I would have taken my car right away to the dealer and complained, but I figured this is normal. Also, if I accelerate hard out of a turn, I definitly notice the clutch slipping. The CVT uses a "multi-wet" clutch setup and I figure this was the reason why. Coming from a car that used to have an Centerforce clutch, this is a bit annoying at times. The positives are in the smoothness of the tranny. The shiftless tranny feels so smooth, its unlike an auto Ive ever driven before. Also, the sport shift mode provides 6 gear ratios to play with. This comes in handy for the time when I miss my manual. The close ratios of the 6 "gears" are well spaced. Although I'd have to say that driving aggressive in the full auto mode gives a quicker 0-60 time and keeps the engine in the right rpm range at all times.
All in all, I love my CVT... it has its quirky "feelings",but getting used to it for me was easy. The smoothness of the tranny and the fact that it keeps itself constantly in the right rpm range is the key seller for me. Living in FL, I did not really feel a need for the quattro and the extra weight and wait for it did not justify it for my needs. But for the future owners of CVT quattros : you gonna love the tranny...
Oh by the way, I hate my Continentals... why the f*** are some of us getting screwed with these crappy tires?!?!?! I say the Conti owners demand replacements with the Dunlops... this is the only OEM part of my car that I hate.

Oh... well when I have it in sports mode, the downshifts feels like theres more engine...
braking than other autos... C&D said the same thing... But the reaction of the gear shifters on the steering wheel is very quick...
