Dash Rattle Fix

Dash Rattle Fix
I've had a rattle under the dash on the drivers side where the dash meets the windshield for quite some time. Took me quite awhile to determine where it actually was. For the longest time, I thought it was coming from the steering column. I am hesitant to bring it to the dealer because if they start tearing your dash apart, you may end up with other problems. Anyway, the picture shows what I tried.

I had some wedges that I purchased as a kit for laying laminate floating floors and tried jamming a couple between the windshield and dash. You could try other things for a trial, but I happened to have some laying around. This completely removed the rattle. Once I knew where it was and how to stop it, I rapped a single wedge with electrical tape to thicken it up and placed three at equal distances across the front of my dash

I placed them in between the vent openings which you can see only by looking down from the outside, through the windshield. I used three, only because you can see them, even when they are shoved down into place, and using 3 sort of balances things out and it appears as though they are part of the car. Make sure you only shove them down far enough such that you are still catching the edge of the dash because it appears to be something beneath the dash that is making the noise. Also, if you push them too far, you may risk losing them down into your vent or behind the dash somewhere. I've had several people in the car since and no one has noticed them, so it must look like they belong there and best of all, the rattle is gone. The car is now super quiet. I do ocassinally have to silicone the sunroof seal and door seals to keep them from squeeking, but everyone should be doing that ocassionally anyway to condition them.

Don't try it if you don't need to or want to.
Sarcasm doesn't work either. Just trying to provide some help which is what these forums are all about. Don't know why people bother to offer their smart *** comments when I would think they should have better things to do. I guess not!
