DOT vs. ECE Xenons
Generation 3 vs. generation 4 (igniter at the bulb)ballast units. The only way to get the Euro lamps to work would be to change the ballast unit along with the lens/reflector assembly.

couldn't you just change out the ballast and bulb? Because that's the
problem we're facing now right? We just have to get the bulb/ballast that will be compatible with the Ecode lens and housing.

Did it look like at some deeper point they were the same?...
What I mean is if you transferred more of the guts from the DOT housing to the Euro one, does it look like it would work? These things are usually more dis-assembleable than they at first look. I recently bought some stripped out housings ('00) for $50 to bring my lights back to stock appearance, and I had to move over the whole lens assembly. It was a lot more involved than what was required to switch over from DOT to Euro, but it turned out fine.

And that's exactly what we did...Swapped out the projector guts
using everything that was "ecode" and used the DOT light bulb back portion of the light to get it to work. Some soldering and splicing of the power connector to the DOT Ballast and viola...more to come.
Will post pictures and write up on AZ shortly. This job is very similar to the clear corner mod except it's a bit MORE involved! =)
